Ingredients for The Vegan Kitchen
Here is a list of ingredients common to the vegan kitchen. It is quite extensive so you need not try to buy everything all at one time. Just stock up an item at a time and before you know it you will have all that is needed to make delicious vegan dishes.
* Agave Nectar (sugar substitute)
* Bob's Red Mill products - flour and various other items including egg replacer - (Some Products Not Vegan, check ingredients list)
* Bulk whole grains: Brown rice, millet, quinoa, amaranth, barley, spelt berries, oat groats, kamut, teff, and rye berries
* Breads: Whole-grain loaves (sliced, frozen, or locally made fresh)
* Beans: black, black-eyed peas, chickpeas (garbanzo beans), cranberry, gigante, great Northern, lima, pinto, mung, navy, and soy
* Blackstrap Molasses
* Brown Rice Syrup (sweetener substitute)
* Carob (a substitute for chocolate in baking)
* Couscous: A grain that can be used in place of rice.
* Cornmeal polenta: Bulk, boxed dry, or pre-made
* Daikon: Japanese radish.
* Daiya vegan cheese
* EnerG Egg Replacer
* Edamame: A green soybean that can be steamed, sauteed, or tossed into soups.
* Frozen whole-grain pancakes, waffles, tortillas, and pizza crusts
* Frozen vegetables and fruits
* Kohlrabi: A root vegetable that is similar in taste to cauliflower.
* Miso paste for making soups and sauces
* Nuts: Almonds, cashews, walnuts, and pecans
* Nutritional Yeast - lots of vitamins and a cheese-like flavor (not the same yeast used for making bread)
* Seeds: Sesame, sunflower, pumpkin, and flax
* Seitan: A meat substitute made from wheat gluten
* Stevia: A naturally sweet herb (sweeter that cane sugar) with no calories.
* Tamari: soy sauce (from soybeans).
* Tempeh: pressed soybeans. May be used as a meat substitute.
* Tofu
* Vegenaise (vegan mayonnaise)
