Vegan Ingredient Substitution Guide
This guide provides a list and suggestions that may be used to replace non-vegan products and ingredients in recipes. Most are readily available, some are not as easy to find. If you live in a smaller community you may need to make use of the internet to purchace some items.
Beer -The problem with some beers is that they contain gelatin and/or use isinglass in their filtering process. Both are animal products. That said, most beer brands are vegan friendly...but not all. Here is a list of a few of the popular brands that are vegan. However, be cautious of flavored beers. This list applies to non-flavored beer and ales:

Cows Milk - Soy milk, almond milk, rice milk, hemp milk
Eggs - We like Ener-G egg replacer and Bob's Red Mill Egg Replacer but you can use apple sauce, flax seed, mashed bananas, cornstarch and others according to the purpose of the eggs in the recipe, i.e., binder, leavening, thickener, etc. For scrambled eggs use extra firm tofu.
Meat
Bacon - Store bought vegan bacon (Lightlite Smart Bacon for one)
Ground Beef - Store bought vegan ground beef. Also use Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) reconstituted with beef flavored broth.
Beef Steaks or Hamburgers - Store bought veggie burgers, Portobello mushrooms, baked Seitan Cutlets
Chicken Breast - Seitan Cutlets
Chicken Broth - vegetable broth
Crab - Store bought imitation crab (Match Foods)
Hot Dogs - Store bought vegan hot dogs (Tofurky)
Butter/Margarine - Vegan Butter Spread (Earth Balance)
Honey - Agave Syrup, Brown Rice Syrup
White Refined Sugar - Stevia (much sweeter than white cane sugar, use sparingly), Agave syrup, evaporated cane juice, brown rice syrup
Cooking oil, shortening, fat - Crisco (not too healthy but it is vegan), grapeseed oil, olive oil, canola oil
